Weather by biome

Every biome on the map has weather, and it changes during the day. Weather makes some moves stronger, tires out pokémon that don't belong there, and decides which species show up more and are easier to catch.

Players who read the forecast pick where and when to hunt. Players who hunt at random lose nothing over the week, but they don't get what the specialist gets either.

The seven kinds of weather

Weather What changes in a fight
Clear sky Nothing
Rain Water moves +30%. Fire moves −30%
Harsh sun Fire moves +30%. Water moves −30%
Thunderstorm Electric moves +30%
Blizzard Ice moves +20%. Tires out anyone who isn't Ice
Sandstorm Tires out anyone who isn't Rock, Ground or Steel
Fog 12% of damaging moves miss. Ghost and Dark moves never miss

Tiredness: sandstorm and blizzard while hunting

While hunting, sandstorm and blizzard tire your pokémon out. Anyone who doesn't belong there deals 15% less damage while that weather lasts.

  • In a sandstorm, Rock, Ground and Steel types don't get tired, and neither does anyone with the Sand Rush ability.
  • In a blizzard, Ice types don't get tired, and neither does anyone with the Snow Cloak ability.

Tiredness never costs HP. The wrong weather costs kills, but it never knocks anyone out. It applies to solo hunting, team hunting, offline time, the Boss Room and floor bosses.

Raids have no weather. Weather also doesn't change loot, gold or experience directly: it only shows up in your kills per hour.

Wild pokémon feel it too

Weather works on both sides. Wild pokémon and bosses feel half of it:

Effect Your team Wild pokémon or boss
Favored move (Water in rain, Fire in sun, Electric in thunderstorm) +30% +15%
Ice in a blizzard +20% +10%
Tiredness in sandstorm and blizzard −15% damage −7.5% damage
Missing in fog 12% 6%

A Water team hits harder in the rain. A wild Fire pokémon hits softer in the rain. That's why building your team for the local weather pays off.

The 6-hour windows

Weather changes in 6-hour windows, always at the same Brasília times: 00:00, 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00. The game shows those times already converted to your time zone.

That's 4 windows a day and 28 a week. A 12-hour offline stretch crosses 2 windows, and each one counts with its own weather.

In the Boss Room, the weather is whatever it is when you walk in, and it stays fixed until the fight ends. Waiting for the right window before trying is a real strategy.

The forecast

While hunting, a chip at the top of the scene shows the current weather and how long until it changes. The full weather bar is on the biome map and shows:

  • the current weather and when it ends;
  • what it changes in a fight;
  • the next 2 windows, each with its start and end time. Back-to-back windows with the same weather are shown together as one stretch;
  • how many pokémon on your active team have the ability that matches the current weather.

The Researcher craft sees further: +2 windows at grade 2, +4 at grade 8, and the whole week at grade 10. The Weather Bulletin, which Researchers make and sell on the Market, gives +2 windows for 7 days to whoever uses it. See Crafts.

How much of each weather each biome gets

Every biome has a fixed count of windows of each weather per week. The order is reshuffled every Thursday at 00:00 Brasília time. The count never changes.

Biome Clear sky Rain Harsh sun Sandstorm Blizzard Fog Thunderstorm
Forest 8 6 10 – – 4 –
Plains 9 4 7 – – – 8
Swamp 6 8 – – – 11 3
Cave 10 – – 11 2 5 –
Sea & Coast 6 11 4 – – 2 5
City & Power Plant 8 5 – – – 4 11
Volcano 6 3 11 8 – – –
Psychic Sanctum 10 – 5 – – 8 5
Haunted Tower 7 5 – – – 12 4
Frozen Mountain 7 – 4 – 12 5 –

The numbers count windows out of 28. Regions outside these biomes always have clear sky.

Catching and spawns: the favorite weather

Every species has a favorite weather in each biome. In the floor list, the icon next to the species shows which one it is.

  • In its favorite weather, it shows up 25% more and is easier to catch.
  • Outside it, it's a bit harder to catch: about 15% harder in most cases, from 10% to 30% depending on the biome and the species.
  • Over the whole week, the species gives you the same as it would without weather. Weather takes nothing from random hunters: it gives more to players who hunt at the right time.

The rarer the favorite weather is in that biome, the bigger the bonus inside it:

Favorite-weather windows per week Catching in favorite weather
2 ×2.50
3 ×2.25
4 ×1.90
5 ×1.69
6 ×1.55
7 ×1.45
8 ×1.38
9 ×1.32
10 ×1.27
11 ×1.23
12 ×1.20

Example: a Cave species that likes blizzards only gets 2 windows a week, and in them catching is ×2.5. Worth setting an alarm for.

Moves that bring weather

Four moves force their weather in the fight for 20 seconds, on top of the biome's weather:

Move Weather it brings
Rain Dance Rain
Sunny Day Harsh sun
Hail Blizzard
Sandstorm Sandstorm

When the 20 seconds are up, the local weather comes back. These moves work even before Trainer 20, and in the Arena and the Cup too.

Weather from a move only changes the fight. Catching and spawns keep following the biome's weather.

Abilities that match the weather

Six abilities wake up with a weather: Swift Swim (rain), Chlorophyll (sun), Sand Rush (sandstorm), Snow Cloak (blizzard), Compound Eyes (fog) and Lightning Rod (thunderstorm). Sand Trap makes catching easier in a sandstorm. See Abilities.
