Phased World

Alongside the Classic map (regions plotted at their real world coordinates), the game has the biome map: a trail of numbered areas in level order, with bosses along the way. It is the more guided reading of the same world, and the natural entry point for new players.

The area trail

A biome groups its regions into a sequence: each node on the trail is an area with its level, and the whole biome covers a band (Forest, the first playable biome, has 33 areas spanning levels 4 to 39). Clicking a node starts hunting there, exactly as on the classic map.

Some nodes show shortcuts: passages to regions further ahead, with the recommended level in the label. They mark where the trail connects to the rest of the world.

Phase boss

In areas with a phase boss, every 30 kills one of them is the boss: the evolution of that area's dominant pokémon, weakened (60% of full strength). It is always the same one for the same area, and it shows up 6 levels above the area's cap.

Taking the boss down costs more time than a regular kill, and the cost depends on the level gap: it weighs more in low areas (close to 10% of throughput) and almost nothing in high ones (under 1%). It pays that back as reward: killing the boss yields 5× the experience and 3× the gold of a regular kill.

The boss can also be caught. It is a real encounter: if your ball and your filters reach its species, the attempt happens like any other catch, and what you catch is exactly what you saw on screen: the evolution, at the boss's level. It can even come shiny, with the same odds as any encounter.

Like everything else in the game, this applies offline too: the phase boss fight resolves on its own, even while you aren't watching, and never needs you on screen. You don't lose the fight for not being there to watch it.

Keys

Each biome has its key (in Forest, the Forest Key). It drops rarely from kills, on a roll independent of normal loot, with a 1 in 8,000 chance.

Across Forest's level band, that works out to roughly one key every 10 to 11 hours of at-level hunting (much faster if you outlevel the area, slower through offline progress).

Keys have their own counter, outside the backpack: they take up no space.

The Boss Room

The key opens the Boss Room, the fight that closes the biome (in Forest, Venusaur at level 42). It differs from everything else in the game:

  • Online and manual only. You enter the fight; it never happens on its own or offline.
  • Consumes the key per attempt.
  • Neither guaranteed nor impossible. The chance comes from comparing how long your lead takes to bring the boss down against how long it stays standing, clamped between 5% and 95%.
  • Every key is a genuinely new chance. Each attempt is decided independently of the last.

So banking 2 or 3 keys means 2 or 3 real chances, and a stronger team moves the odds up rather than simply "unlocking" the fight.

Winning closes an act of the biome, and acts form a ladder: each act cleared raises the next boss's effective level by +12% compounding: more HP and more damage, but also a bigger prize (victory gold scales with the effective level). The current act and effective level are shown in the Boss Room window.

The gold prize decays with repetition

Beating the same boss over and over pays less and less gold. The first 3 wins pay the full prize; from the 4th on, the value drops 25 points per win (75%, 50%...) until it stops at 25% of the full prize, and stays on that floor forever.

  • The counter is per boss: beating the boss of another floor or another biome pays full again.
  • Catching does not change: the capture chance is the same on every attempt.
  • Hoarding keys to farm one boss still pays, just less. Keys earn more exploring new bosses.
