Genetics
Every pokémon has a row of 6 genes. Each gene is a letter. Some letters help, others get in the way. When you breed, each slot of the baby comes from one of the parents, and players who know the rule pick the right pair.
The best pokémon can't be caught: they're bred, generation after generation.
The six letters
| Letter | Name | Effect per letter | With 6 of the same |
|---|---|---|---|
| F | Power | +3% Attack and Sp. Atk | +18% |
| V | Vigor | +4% max HP | +24% |
| A | Agility | +4% walking speed on the field | +24% |
| C | Charisma | +2% catch chance. Only counts on the lead of the hunt | +12% |
| W | Fatigue | −2% Attack and Sp. Atk and −3% HP | −12% and −18% |
| X | Hollow | Nothing | – |
F, V, A and C are good. W and X are bad: W takes away, X takes nothing, but both dominate inheritance.
Matching letters add up: 3 F give +9% Attack. Letters on different stats multiply: an FFFVWX pokémon ends up with about +6.8% Attack and +0.9% HP.
There's no row that's best at everything. Easy-map farming likes F and A. Bosses, raids and hard content want F and V. Hunting to catch wants C on the lead.
A pure lineage is a row with all six letters good, in any mix. It gets a breeder badge on the sheet and has its own filter in the Box and on the Market.
What genes each pokémon is born with
When you catch, each slot is rolled on its own:
| X | W | F | V | A | C |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30% | 20% | 12.5% | 12.5% | 12.5% | 12.5% |
Half the slots come out bad. A wild pokémon with all 6 good is 1 in 64. With 6 F, 1 in 262,144.
The same table applies to the Boss Room, legends, raids, fossils, the Sortuda, species chests and task rewards.
Born without W (the slot that would be W becomes X):
- your starter pokémon;
- pokémon from the Founders Pack and the Genesis Pack;
- pokémon you already had before genetics arrived.
Lab fusion (9 into 1): each slot keeps the letter that shows up most among the nine. On a tie, the bad one wins.
Inheritance in eggs
Each of the 6 slots is decided on its own, looking only at that slot's letter on both parents:
| Parent A | Parent B | The baby gets |
|---|---|---|
| Same letter | Same letter | That letter, 100% |
| Good | A different good one | 50% each |
| Bad | A different bad one | 50% each |
| Good | Bad | Good 37.5% · Bad 62.5% |
The bad letter weighs more. A W on one parent "spreads" to that slot 62.5% of the time.
Example. Father FFVAXW with mother FFVCWW:
- slots 1, 2 and 3: F, F and V guaranteed;
- slot 4: A or C, half and half;
- slot 5: X or W, bad either way;
- slot 6: W guaranteed.
Anyone who reads this won't breed that pair.
- Ditto passes genes like any other parent.
- The egg card shows the parents' genes. The baby's only show up when it hatches.
- Nothing changes after the baby is born. There are no mutations.
The ability also passes through the egg, from the mother. See Abilities.
Fertility
Every pokémon has a number of breedings in its lifetime. The sheet shows "Fertility: X of Y breedings".
| Who | Breedings in its lifetime |
|---|---|
| Caught, fossil, the Sortuda, chest, Lab fusion, older pokémon | 6 |
| Baby from an egg | (father's fertility + mother's) ÷ 2, rounded down, − 1 |
- Each egg uses 1 breeding from each parent.
- Birth fertility never changes. What gets used up is what's left.
- At 0, the pokémon is sterile: it can't breed anymore, but it still fights normally.
- No item gives fertility back.
- What's left travels with the pokémon when you sell or trade it. The Market shows how many breedings are left.
A pure line goes sterile. Always breeding inside the line: 6 → 5 → 4 → 3 → 2 → 1 → 0.
New blood brings fertility back, but costs purity. A parent with fertility 2 and a wild one with 6 give a baby with (2 + 6) ÷ 2 − 1 = 3. But the wild one brings half its slots bad, and bad dominates. That's the breeder's dilemma.
Catalysts
Catalysts are items a parent holds while breeding. They're used up right away. In the game they keep their Portuguese names, shown in parentheses.
| Catalyst | Effect on the baby |
|---|---|
| Destiny Knot (Laço do Destino) | Inherits 5 IVs from the parents instead of 3 |
| Everstone (Pedra Eterna) | Nature of the parent holding it, 100% |
| Power Weight (Peso do Poder) | Gene slot 1 and the HP IV come from the parent holding it |
| Power Bracer (Pulseira do Poder) | Gene slot 2 and the Attack IV |
| Power Belt (Cinto do Poder) | Gene slot 3 and the Defense IV |
| Power Lens (Lente do Poder) | Gene slot 4 and the Sp. Atk IV |
| Power Band (Faixa do Poder) | Gene slot 5 and the Sp. Def IV |
| Power Anklet (Tornozeleira do Poder) | Gene slot 6 and the Speed IV |
Limits
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Per breeding | 1 catalyst. A grade 4 Breeder uses 2, one on each parent |
| Per week | 3 catalysts used per trainer. The week resets on Saturday at 00:00 Brasília time |
| Same item on both parents | Not allowed |
| Power item on the slot picked by the Breeder's Chosen lineage | Not allowed: pick another slot |
Every refusal happens before anything is spent.
Where they come from
| Source | Chance or cost |
|---|---|
| Legendary chest | 0.30% per chest |
| Arena chest | 0.40% per chest |
| Champion chest | 0.89% per chest |
| Boss chest | 0.30% per chest |
| Artisan grade 8 recipe | 500 Dust + 5 boosters + 100,000 gold. You pick which of the 8. Up to 2 per week |
| Market and trades | Tradable between players |
In chests, all 8 catalysts have the same chance. Catalysts are never sold for Safira. The NPC pays 1,000 gold for each.
The Breeder craft
The Breeder craft is the genetics specialist:
| Grade | What you get |
|---|---|
| 2 | Inheritance table: when breeding, shows the chance of each gene coming from each parent |
| 4 | Second catalyst slot: 2 catalysts on the same breeding |
| 8 | Breeder fertility: every parent you breed has +1 breeding in its lifetime. The baby doesn't inherit the bonus |
| 10 | Chosen lineage: on each breeding, you pick which parent one of the 6 genes comes from |
