Cup of the Week

The Cup is a PvP mode that starts over every Monday, with a different rule each week. It lives in a Cup tab inside the Arena, and it doesn't touch anything in the regular Arena.

In the Cup, level, rarity and paid packs don't count. Whoever knows types, moves, weather and abilities wins.

How the week works

  • The cup resets on Monday at 00:00 Brasília time.
  • Every Monday you start from scratch: no team signed up and a rating of 1,000.
  • You sign up 3 pokémon. Order matters: the first one holds the front line.
  • You can change your entry any time during the week, for free.
  • Next week's format and weather already show on screen.

The formats

Formats rotate in an 8-week cycle, in this order:

Format Level Who can enter
Flat Cup 50 50 Anything goes, except legendaries and Megas
Monotype Cup 50 All three share the type of the week (primary or secondary)
Generation Cup 50 Only pokémon from the generation of the week (1 to 5)
B-Side Cup 50 The 30 most used species in the top 50 of the last two cups are left out
Storm Cup 50 The weather of the week counts double
Light Cup 50 Base stat total up to 480
Mirror Cup 50 All three are the species of the week
Open Cup 100 100 Megas allowed, legendaries not
  • Legendaries can't enter any cup. Megas only in the Open Cup 100.
  • The type, generation and species of the week never repeat the ones from the last time that format ran.

The Mirror Cup species

The species is drawn from final forms of generations 1 to 5, with no legendaries or Megas, and a base stat total between 420 and 560.

Since the cup of October 12, 2026, it also needs a real menu of moves: at level 50, at least 8 damaging moves of 4 different types. That way the Mirror Cup is decided by the build, not by a coin flip.

The Flat Rule

In the Cup, every pokémon fights at the cup's level (50 or 100). The level goes up or down: a Lv 20 becomes 50, a Lv 100 becomes 50. Nothing is saved: outside the Cup your pokémon stays the same.

Doesn't count in the Cup Counts in the Cup
Level (everyone at the cup's level) Species and types
Rarity (everyone fights as Common) Team order
IVs (everyone has 31 in everything) The pokémon's real nature
Shiny, Founder and Genesis Cup kit EVs
Bond and Stars Cup kit moves
TM tier and seals Ability
Held item Weather of the week
Genes, Tempering and trainer talents

Shiny, Founder and Genesis still show in the replay. They just don't give any power.

The cup kit

Each pokémon can have a cup kit, separate from its hunting kit:

  • 1 to 4 moves, no repeats, all from the moves the pokémon already knows. The Cup doesn't teach moves;
  • free EVs: up to 252 per stat and 510 total, no vitamins needed;
  • building the kit costs no gold and doesn't cool down any move;
  • the kit works every week, and it's removed when the pokémon changes owners.

Without a kit, the pokémon fights with its hunting moves and zero EVs.

A move that only unlocks above the cup's level stays out of the fight, and the screen warns you ("needs level X"). The move pool comes from the pokémon's real level: a Lv 20 goes up to 50, but only with the moves a Lv 20 already knows.

Tickets and fights

Rule Value
Tickets 3 per day, separate from the Arena's 5
When they come back At midnight Brasília time. They don't stack and can't be bought
Opponent Drawn from the players with the rating closest to yours
Same opponent At most once a day and 3 times a week, counting attack and defense
No opponent available The ticket isn't spent

Fights are blind. You don't pick the target and don't see their team beforehand. Only in the replay. That's why building your team for the week matters more than counter-picking.

  • The battle is the same 3 vs 3 as the Arena.
  • If time runs out, whoever has more total HP, as a percentage, wins. On an exact tie, the defender wins.
  • Your signed-up team also defends, all week, against whoever draws you.

Weather in the Cup

Each cup has one fixed weather, which lasts the whole fight and hits both sides at full strength. It rotates in a 6-week cycle: rain, harsh sun, sandstorm, blizzard, fog and thunderstorm. It's never clear sky.

Weather Normal cup Storm Cup
Rain Water +30%, Fire −30% Water +60%, Fire −60%
Harsh sun Fire +30%, Water −30% Fire +60%, Water −60%
Thunderstorm Electric +30% Electric +60%
Blizzard Ice +20%. Wears down anyone who isn't Ice Ice +40%. Double wear
Sandstorm Wears down anyone who isn't Rock, Ground or Steel Double wear
Fog 12% of damaging moves miss 24% miss

In the Cup, sandstorm and blizzard wear you down. Anyone who doesn't belong there loses 0.6% of max HP per second (1.2% in the Storm Cup). Sand Rush and Snow Cloak also escape it. Wear never knocks anyone out, but it counts toward HP at the end of the fight. Weather moves (Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Hail, Sandstorm) bring their weather for 20 s, and then the weather of the week comes back.

See Weather by biome and Abilities.

Rankings

  • Everyone starts the week at 1,000, which is also the floor.
  • Rating goes up and down like in the Arena: attacking and winning gives points, and so does a good defense. See PvP Arena.
  • The screen lists the top 50.

Minimum participation

To compete for rewards, you need 12 attack fights on 3 different days during the week. Players who haven't met it show in gray on the ranking and get no reward. The reward placement only counts players who met it.

Last week's cup report

The screen shows the species and types most used by last week's top 50. That's also where the B-Side Cup's banned list comes from.

Rewards

Placement (among players who qualified) Reward
1st 3 Arena chests + 1 Champion chest + title
2nd and 3rd 2 Arena chests
4th to 10th 1 Arena chest
11th to 50th 20 Tokens
  • Every attack fight pays Tokens: 2 for a win, 1 for a loss. Defenders don't get Tokens. With 3 tickets, that's up to 6 a day.
  • Rewards stay pending until you tap Claim in the Cup tab. Pending rewards add up and don't expire.
  • The Cup never pays Safira.
  • There's one title per format: "Flat Cup 50 Champion", "Monotype Cup Champion" and so on.

Tokens and the Showcase

Cup Tokens are the same Arena Tokens: not tradable, spent at the Arena Showcase. See The Arena Token.

With the Cup live, the Showcase gets an item that rotates with the week:

Item Price What for
Wild Mint 90 Tokens Rerolls the pokémon's nature. Nature is the only part of identity that counts in the Cup

Next week's rotating item already shows in the Showcase. The fixed items (Inheritance Capsule and seals) are still there. Seals bought with Tokens don't count inside the Cup, because the Flat Rule zeroes out seals.

The Tactician craft

The Tactician craft earns Expertise in cups (15 per win, and more from rewards) and unlocks tools like saved cup teams. See Crafts.

Bracket Cup

A monthly knockout between the best cup players. Coming soon.
