Shiny

Shiny is the top of the top. Every encounter has a tiny chance the wild is shiny, and when it is, it gets a huge bonus on top of the rarity it already had. Appearances (caught or not) are logged.

You can see it

A shiny has its own colours, both on its card and in battle. Every species has its own: shiny Mewtwo is green, shiny Gyarados is red, shiny Lugia turns pink. It is not a glow on top of the normal one, it is a different paint job on the same creature.

In some species the difference is subtle on purpose, because that is how that shiny looks. When in doubt, the catch alert and the frame in your Box tell you without relying on colour.

The chance

The chance of finding a shiny is 1 in 72,000 per encounter.

Quantity Value Intuition
Chance per encounter 1 / 72,000 ~0.0014%, about 1 in every 72,000 wild appearances
Stat multiplier ×1.45 +45% over base

The Distant Shine talent (talent tree, paid in Tokens) improves that chance by a relative 5%: about 1 in 68,600. It helps, but it does not change the nature of the rarity.

Shiny does not replace the monster's rarity: it stacks with it. Every shiny also rolls its own rarity, and the two multiply. A common shiny is already strong; a high-rarity shiny is another level entirely.

What shiny changes

Shiny applies a base-stat multiplier of ×1.45 (+45%) on top of the rarity the monster rolled:

Source Stat mult How it enters the maths
Rolled rarity 1.00 to 1.36 everyone's baseline
Shiny ×1.45 (+45%) multiplies the rarity
Founder ×1.50 (+50%) multiplies the rarity
Genesis ×1.42 (+42%) multiplies the rarity

Multiply them out: a common shiny sits at ×1.45, a Mythic shiny at ×1.75 and an Astral shiny at ×1.86. Finding a shiny is already rare; finding a high-tier shiny is the game's big prize.

What you found The maths Base stats
Common Shiny 1.00 × 1.45 ×1.45
Epic Shiny 1.10 × 1.45 ×1.60
Mythic Shiny 1.21 × 1.45 ×1.75
Astral Shiny 1.28 × 1.45 ×1.86

Rarity tiers

The individual-rarity scale, rolled per individual. Shiny multiplies any of them:

Tier Stat mult Probability
Common 1.00 77.25%
Uncommon 1.03 16.82%
Rare 1.06 4.55%
Epic 1.10 0.82%
Prismatic 1.15 0.38%
Mythic 1.21 0.12%
Astral 1.28 0.050% (≈ 1 in 1,989)
Divine 1.36 never in the wild (Lab fusion only)

Appearance logging

Every shiny appearance, caught or not, is recorded.

Open the Catches screen, go to Species and pick Shiny only: the table shows, species by species, how many you spotted, how many balls you spent on them and how many you actually caught. A shiny that showed up and fled before you threw a ball still counts as spotted.

Global shows the same numbers for the whole game: how many shinies have appeared for all trainers, how many were caught and the overall rate. Handy for comparing your luck against the server's.
